Backpacking beginner? |
Travel Info Hi there, i'll be having a one-month holiday from july. planning to make a solo backpack tour. i'm a 26 female, and absolutely new in traveling and stuffs. can give me suggestions on: - how to get started? - choice of destination - with budget about USD 500 (i know that's kinda little) - any site that i can visit other than lonely planet? - my preferance destination should be in Asia pasific region thanks! :) Travel Tips $500 would probably keep you going for a while once in Asia, but it will not get you there. South East Asia is mostly very well developed for backpacking. Lots of people go there. So its quite easy to follow the trail, and once you are going you can get advice from other travellers you meet along the way. Remember less is more, and pack very light. Get your jabs, and don't forget your antimalarials both before you go and for a month after you get back. Others I would suggest you save up some more. $500 is not much to play with. You haven't said if that is your total budget or is this the money you will have to spend once you get there. You will also need to do your research to see if you will need vaccinations. Hep A & B, tetnus - if your booster is not up to date, Typhoid. These can be pretty expensive if they are not covered by health insurance. Have you factored this into your $500? South East Asia is pretty cheap, but you may struggle to get by on less than US$20 per day if you plan to travel around much, or buy anything other than food. The Lonley Planet web site is a good place to start for backpacing, they also have the thorn tree forum where you can ask other travelers questions. I'd just reaseach all you can on a destination you have in mind over the net - there are so many sites. Another website about traveling is http://www.frommers.com it is true about your budget being low, unless that's how much you're using over there, if not you're kind of in trouble...because if you plan on getting on a plane to fly over there it can be quite expensive, like for example....I'll be leaving to Hong Kong in less than 2 weeks and the round trip ticket cost around USD$1,210 >.<...so you really might consider saving up more money first....or you can pick a different destination...sorry >.< |
