Travel Tips
Don't worry just yet, but you do need to act. You do need a passport to go to Turkey, you can't even board the airplane without one. Go on line and check the status of your passport, next contact your US representive and tell them what is going on. Don't worry you will not be the only one calling them. They should be able to help you, if nothing else they can tell you what is going on.

If in the next five days you still don't know or have answer, go to this website and contact the passport department for an in person visit. You need to have an appointment to get in, and they won't give you one unless you are traveling within 10 days. With an appointment and a wait in line of about 2-4 hours, they can give you your passport the same day.

Uh, I think you're screwed. I've heard that, with passports now being mandatory even for things like cruises to the Caribbean, the wait for passports has ballooned like crazy. It can now take months for one to arrive. I sincerely hope you find someone who can expedite matters for you, but the odds don't sound good.
Go back to your passport office and get them to give you proof that you have applied for one and that may work.

I have read in the papers that they are allowing that due to the backups. Give it a try. Otherwise, if your passport doesn't arrive in time you will need to reschedule your trip.

Good Luck!
I do not have any advice for you concerning your passport, but i do tell you to becareful once you get there. There are a lot thieves. Sales people are very touchy, meanwhile they could be robbing you. My brother just went to Turkey on holiday.
He had his wallet open in preparation for something he was going to buy from a street vendor. Meanwhile, another street vendor approached him trying to sell him a tourist guide.
he placed the book on top of the wallet, trying to distract him by talking, and meanwhile grabbing at the money inside the wallet.
Can you believe he took every dime out of there? My brother felt it and told the man to give him back the money he just stole from him. After an initial denial, the vendor returned 50 euros. My brother goes " no you stole more" and the vendor returns him another 50 and the debate goes on until most of the money was returned, 20 euros short.{ which my brother rememebered he had after leaving}.
Just wanted to share this story, so that others are warned.
take care.
