How much spending money should I take? |
Travel Info Im visiting Berlin next month for 5 days my accom/flight paid for. How much spending money should I take? Not sure how expensive it is over there etc. Be glad of any advice! Travel Tips Let's see: Breakfast (it not included in your accomodation): About 2 Euro (a cheap roll with cuts and a maybe not so great coffee) to 20 Euro (high end brunch with jazz music). But normally about about 5 Euro if you're in a not so expensive area. Lunch: Some snacks for lunch? 2 to 5 Euros (try Doener or a Wurst). 1 to 3 Euro for a drink. Dinner: About 10 to 15 Euro per Person, if it's a down to earth restaurant. (However, if you find a cheap restaurant it could also be 7 euro, or 30 euro in an expensive restaurant). Bars: 2 to 4 Euros for a soft drink or a beer. 4 to 10 Euros for a cocktail (normally about 6 to 7 Euros, watch out for Happy Hours) Nightclubs: 4 to 10 Euros entrance (depending on club and DJ, no drink included), 3 to 4 euros for a beer, 2 to 3 for softdrinks. Museums: Thursday evening most of the museums are for free. Normally 6 to 8 Euros, depending... reduced normally half of it. But watch out: If you're a museum geek (or even if not), there's a 3 day ticket for all of the state museums (about 50) for just about 15 Euros (the half reduced). Shopping (especially clothes) isn't cheap because of the Dollar/Euro ratio, so keep it reduced to a minimum. T-Shirts are about 10 to 15 Euros, Jeans about 50 Euros, shoes too. CDs are about 10 to 18 euros, as are DVDs (special offers cheaper of course. for this go to Saturn at Alexanderplatz) Food is cheap in Aldi or Lidl or Plus or Netto (the discounter supermarkets). Bread for 50 cent, drinks for the same price... Cheaper districts are Friedrichshain, Kreuzberg, northern parts of Mitte, some parts of Prenzlauer Berg, more expensive are most Parts of Mitte (especially around Unter den Linden and Friedrichstrasse) and Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf (especially around Kurf眉rstendamm). ALL IN ALL: about 50 Euros without shopping and extra stuff would do it. At least (and easily!) for me ;) Source(s): living here. Other Travel Tips At the least a couple hundred. use your charge cards carry traveler cheques this way cash on your person can be kept to a minimum less chances for loss and especially theft Germany uses the Euro. One Euro is equivalent to about $1.33 US dollars, so, if something costs 10 Euros, it would be about $13.33 US Dollars. Consider that when you are travelling. Also, there is a cost for exchanging money, so you need to bring some extra to pay to the money changers. The cost of living in Germany is higher than in the US, so things will cost a little more (like meals, accomodations, gifts, etc.) You need to make your own decision on how much to bring, but consider that you're going to be on vacation and you'll probably want to do things that you don't usually do and you'll want to get gifts for people. If you're planning on getting a bunch of gifts, you might consider bringing an extra, fairly empty suitcase to carry them back on the plane. I agree that you should consider using your credit cards instead of cash, but check with your credit card company concerning the cost of purchasing items using Euros rather than dollars. There is typically a fee. Have a great trip! |
