I need to get my passport but I can't find my ss card or birth certificate!? |
Travel Info I am going on a cruise in March and need to get my passport, we moved and I can't find my old passport, social security card or birth certificate. Obviously I need to get a new ss card and a new birth certificate but what do I need to get first and where do I need to go or who should I call? I need to get this done soon because of the backlog on passports. HELP! Travel Tips You can go to the local Social Security office or to the 1st website below to get info to replace your S.S. card. You can go to the 2nd website to find the right place to send for your birth certiicate. or you can do a web search and just type in "birth certificate, and the name of the state where you were born" and you will get the info on where to contact for a brth certificate. Then, go to the 3rd website to report the lost passport and apply for a new one. If you are not travelling until March, you should be ok. Good thing you are planning ahead...so many people leave all this to the last minute! When you order your new birth certificte, it is wise to get 2 or 3 certified copies at the same time. Hope all goes smoothly for you and you have a great cruise. Source(s): http://www.ssa.gov/ssnumber/ http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/howto/w2w/w2welc... http://travel.state.gov/passport/lost/lo... Other Travel Tips You don't need your social security card to get a passport. You do need your old passport or your birth certificate to get a new one. The first thing you need to do it contact the county recorder where you were born in to get a new birth certificate. Once you have that, you will have what you need, just head to the passport office. Remember you can always expedite your passport for an extra $60 and get it in 4 weeks. However if you can find your old passport, even if it is expired, you can use it instead of a birth certificate to get your passport. To get a birth certificate you go to the local country clerks office where you born you usually fill out a form pay somemoney and make sure you bring some ID and they most of the time will print it out for you right then. If you where born overseas you need to go to us couslest. To get a SS card you need to go to your local SS office and fill some form out and then they have to mail it to you and it takes a few weeks. It doesn't matter what order you do them in I don't think. If your last names changed because of marrage you need to bring a marriage certificate with you for both things. |
