Will I have a problem flying internationally if my trip is July 6-15 and my passport expires July 23/27ish? |
Travel Info I am going to Croatia and there's a connecting flight in Frankfurt. I know it is high alert for any kind of suspicious activity and id's are being checked more securely but I'll have my lisence, student id, and I'll be with a student group going for a student trip. Travel Tips Steve B has a good suggestion, but I doubt there is time to accomplish it before Friday. Call the Croatian Embassy and ask. Assuming you are a US citizen they will almost certainly tell you it's OK. Make a note of the name, title and phone number of the embassy official who gives you the OK: http://www.croatiaemb.org/ Today is a holiday in the US and the Croatian Embassy is probably closed. If you want to know today, call the Croatian Embassy in Canada as they will be open: http://www.croatiaemb.net/ Have a printed copy of your flight information and printed copies of any hotel & rental car reservations on you when you walk up to passport control in Croatia. The objective is to be able to show the immigration officer proof you are a tourist who wil leave Croatia before your passport expires. You shouldn't have to go through passport control in Frankfurt, but it doesn't matter becuase your passport just has to be valid (not expired) to enter Germany. Other Travel Tips Call the state department first to check. They can give you an emergency passport extension for 1 year. It costs more since it is a RUSH. Like $90.00 last time I did it. They stamp the last page. The when you have time mail it in for the FULL renewal with a new picture, etc. You should be ok but you're right, there seems to be alot of scrutiny on the expiration date. I understand that your passport has to be valid for at least 6 months after your return date. You may have problems if there is an unexpected delay in your trip. possibly, however it would seem one cannot travel without some short of mishap. You can check with your post office next time you mail somthing |
