Parcel Shipping Companies?

I have to ship a small load of things (record player, records, lots of books, clothes, shoes, computer, & two paintings) from NYC to Arkansas. I need to compare shipping costs from all the major shippers (USPS, FedEx, UPS, etc) and maybe some small mom and pop ones bc I'm sure they'll be cheaper. Anyone know of a site that allows me to do that? Something along the lines of the insurance and rental car sites?

Also any personal experience in shipping small loads of valuables in the US, please share. Looking for a good reliable company bc I do value my things, but don't want to spend an obscene amount to get them there. Thanks in advance.

I don't have any experience with them. For small parcels, face it... UPS and FedEx pretty much control the market, along with the USPS. How can a "mom and pop" operation get a bunch of boxes from NYC to Arkansas? If you ship all your boxes by truck, that's where you'll find opportunities to compare pricing."Google" shipping companies
There are a couple ways to determine how much it will cost. For one will you be using one big box or a couple smaller ones. Second, do you care how long it will get there and third sometimes it costs more depending where you live. For example, since it's going to Arkansas it will cost less money if it is going to a major city and usually the price will go up if it's harder for them to get there. I wouldn't send it regular mail because it isn't very reliable compared to FedEx or UPS. Oh, and usually the cost will go up if you send it through a smaller company because they mark it up for profit. Try sending it at the UPS store or a FedEx place.
