Confused About Luggage restrictions??

Travel Info
My Friend Is Flying Out Tenerife In A Couple Of Weeks And We Are Confused About The Luggage Regulations, Are You Allowed To Carry Liquids (eg. facial wash, Lip Gloss, etc...) In Your Normal Suitcase (The Main One) Or Do All Liquids You Have Have To Be Put In Your Hand Luggage/Cabin Luggage In A Clear Bag. We Did Not Know Whether This Was The Regulation Or If It Was Only The Liquids In Your Cabin Bags That Had To Be In A Clear Bag And Other Liquds In Your Suitcase Are Ok...Sorry If This Question Is Confusing, But This Is How Confused We Are!!!

Many Thanks On Behalf Of My Friend

Just one other note to add to the comprehensive answers already given, you can carry medication which you need to take on the flight. The advice is that you photocopy your prescription to prove that you need it. We did a long-haul last December and my husband has A LOT of medication some of which was time sensitive. No problems with Customs - showed him the bag of pills and potions with the Script.
Mums with baby formula were being made to drink some of the formula at Customs and people with bottles of water had to bin them.
Remember only 1 piece of hand luggage - no handbags, cameras - everything has to fit in that one bag

all liquids should be in the big suit case and checked in. try not to take any lotions, lipsticks, creams, in your hand luggage. Hand luggage should be only ONE BAG. Do not take your hand bag and one extra bad. JUST ONE HAND LUGGAGE PER PERSON IS ALLOWED
You can put any liquids in your checked-in luggage (provided they are not flammable or explosive). The main restrictions apply to what you can carry through security. This is the stuff that has to be in 100ml containers in a plastic bag. Once through security, you can buy what you like and take it on board. So if you can manage without your lipgloss until you arrive, put it in your checked-in case. If you're desperate to have some on the flight with you, either make sure it's in the right sized containers, or buy some in Boots in the departure lounge.
Usually you can take liquids on your carry on but they have to be in a ziplock bag in bottles no larger than 3 ounces. In your checked bag it doesn't matter. This is subject to change depending on airline, airport & security alert status. Go to the dot com site of the airline you are flying on for the best up to date info.
I think the liquid restriction is still in place within the cabin area.
It would be advisable to put all liquids in your suitcase that are not necessary. I am sure if you go on to the website of the airport you are flying from it will have information.
you can carry liquids in your suitcase but any in hand luggage have to fit into a little clear plastic bag. The easiest way to travel is to put all liquids in yor main suitcase, dont carry and in your hand luggage. I am sure you can do without your lipstick/beer for a few hours. Any refreshments you need ywil be available on the plane.
