Are airports strict about weight and size limitations on your baggage? |
Travel Info i'm taking air france and some of may baggage exceeds the limit by a few pounds and and a few centimetres. im talking maybe a difference of about 2-5 lbs and 2-3 cm in length. will the security tell me i can't use my bags? Travel Tips They will take it but charge you for it. Others I'm afraid so. They may turn a blind eye to it but if they don't you'll have to pay an excess (which is a lot of money) or dump some of what you are carrying. yes, they have to be or people would be trying to bring on board all kinds of stuff ...like it was stated previously they willtake your luggage (if they are not over the weight limit), or your unusual shaped stuff like skis, but they will charge you a herft premium. As the others have said, you can take your bags, but you will have to pay. Every airline is different for what they charge for overweight and oversize. To get an aircraft in the air and flying it involves a formula which is used to assure the aircraft can fly, a major part of that formula is about the weight of the aircraft. The airlines allows each passenger a certain amount of weight for their luggage divide up evenly because of that formula, they do leave some room for cases like yours, and that is why they charge extra because your going over your specified limit. Here is the link for Air France that gives you their specific information on what they charges for over sized/weight bags. http://www.airfrance.us/us/en/local/guid... They may be picky about it but are usually flexible (2-3lbs)here in JFk Have dropped off many people in the airport. As people here have said, it depends. I've been on flights where people had to remove things from their bags when they were one pound over; and I've been able to get by being three pounds over. This refers, of course, to checked baggage. They probably won't be able to tell if your carry on is a few centimeters over. However, it has to be able to fit through the "hole" on the security station, so if it's way too big they would make you check it. |
