I plan to drive from Mysore to Goa. What is best route, road quality and any suggestions - plz? |

Any experiences Travel Tips I had taken the Tumkur-Honavar-Karwar route last october and the drive took around 15-17 hours with pit-stops inbetween ofcourse, due to the road expansion/laying work enroute the travel time was a littel longer, the streches that are completed were absolutely a drivers delight! I heard that the roads have improved even further now with the work completing quickly. The drive was absolutely fabulous with a couple of noatible places where there was miles n miles of Sunflowers and then a entire horizon filled with wind mills. Then take the NH-206 west to the west coast city of Honavar, Karnataka and head north on NH-17. This will take you into Goa. Driving time is unpredictable. The road quality on NH-4 shouldn't be too bad because of the NHDP project, which supposedly adds an extra lane to both sides and refinishes the roads to rid potholes and cracks. No experiences on this highway. But I did take NH-8 from Mumbai to Ahmedabad. It was relatively quick and the roads were alright. Mapquest.com or expedia.com offer maps with routes laid out to "take the highways" "avoid the highways" "shortest route" "longest route" and approximate times of travel. I'm not sure but I think they offer info for under construction as well. The Honnavar - Karwar - Goa route is good The other route (NH4?) is terrible. There is a faith that you should not ask for Travel time while on road. Motor tavel is always risky and fixing time and travelling is too risky for any India road. my advice would be to go from mysore to bangalore to hubli along the pune highway. from hubli to karwar (avoid the anmod ghat route its pathetic) and from karwar to goa. this might not be the shortest route, but its probably the best one as far as road quality |
