GOA Can i get low budget hotel/ guest house accomodation near NIO , Dona Paula?

Dear friends,
i am planning to visit goa , (NIO) .
I have two queries in this regard.
1. Can i get an economic/down to earth accomodation for two ( with my spouse) in dona paula. A preferable acomodation would be within walking distance from NIO.
(what is your opinion about paying guest houses in that locality, if available.)
2. Is it safe to commute in late evenings in Goa. are any vehicles available around 11-12 pm ?
