Travel Info Has anybody ever driven by car (4x4) from canada (BC) to Panama City? How was it? Travel Tips To start, Not me. My family and I HAVE driven from Ohio to Guatemala City though and I have driven alone a to salavador and I have friends that have driven/bused from Guatemala to Panama. The best part of your trip will be from Canada to the Mexican border. Mexico is dificult but not imposible. Expect a min of 3 days and dont travel after dark to cross Mexico. Guatemala can be crossed in a day if you push but you cant cross the border at night so why try? From there you can get through Salvador and into Honduras easily in a day. Then another day to Managua, Nicaragua. Maybe 2 or 3 more days to San Jose and Panama City. I would calculate 10 days pushing hard to cross the Isthmus (Mexico to Panama) or 15 days at a slow but steady pace. The roads will be interstate at times and just a step above dirt roads at times but if you stick to the main roads you wont need a 4x4 ever. In short, it'll be a long and grueling trip with little to gain (dont do it just to have a car in Panama or to move, I'll bet its cheaper to pay a shipping co and buy a car in Panama). But hey, its great bragging rights, eh! Others No, I'm way too impatient to drive to the Old Country. I'm in total awe of you, that you're driving there, how cool! Have fun and be careful in Mexico and Guatemala! |
