Travel Tips For lovely and quiet beaches which offer snorkeling and a whole range of water sports, inexpensive boarding and lodging, hospitable and friendly locals who can converse in fluent English/Spanish, it is hard to beat Panama. Been there for Christmas, New Years, and all other holidays that we have in the United States along with all of their holidays. Panama is a pretty safe place to go. I have never had any problems when I have been there. I feel very safe when I am there, even walking the streets downtown. Many of times I have even feel asleep downtown at the bus station before it moved to the mall area. i have been there 4 x nothing ever happened to me In general, it is safe, with some exceptions: - Do not walk in the city of Col贸n any time of the day - Do not walk in downtown Panama City at night - There is a risk of yellow fever and drug-related crime in Dari茅n gap (east of Yaviza), though some people made it there as well and enjoyed it. Otherwise, it is a marvellous place and you should have no problem getting around by very cheap local buses and staying in local hotels at about $7 a night or even less. It is also the most beautiful. I suggest you go see the Canal of course and the Spanish fortress(Panama la Vieja) that was destroyed by the Scottish Pirate Henry Morgan. Good luck and have fun.
