What is it like in Changuinola, Panama?

I know it is a poor city, but how are the surroundings? Pretty beaches, rainforests etc?

It is a hot Panamanian town surrounded by banana plantations. It is pretty flat. It is on a river-- not on the ocean. To go to a beach you have to go out to the Bocas del Toro island chain. Isla Colon is about 50 minutes by water taxi but it doesn't any really good beaches either. There are some interesting places to go in the mountains inland from there. For example the Tererebe (sic?) Indians have a tour to their communities that is supposed to be interesting. There are dolphins and some good snorkling on some of the Bocas del Toro Islands. . Source(s): I was there in June 2006.
