What about Panama City, in Panama? Is it a nice place to live?

Travel Tips
Panama City is a nice place to live. It's the most cosmopolitan city in Central America. In fact most expats here refer to Panama City as little Miami, FL.

You can find almost anything you can get in the US. Surely there are some exceptions, but you can apply that rule about 80% of the time.

Like any mayor city it has lots of traffic on peak hours, and around the business district or the banking area as most locals refer to it; and like most mayor cities there are spots where you have to be extra careful, but the city is safe in most urban and suburban areas.

Nightlife is very good. There are a lot of places to go out. There are plenty of places to dance, eat, drink, see art, catch a move, watch a play (in English too), listen to good music (all genres), etc.

People are generally nice if you approach them, and most of them are very social. However if you plan to meet people you have to learn the moves. Don't expect people to walk over while you're out clubbing or dancing. Usually you ask for someone you know to introduce you and then you take it from there. Some people are more bold and go at it themselves but those are few. If you don't have friends in town, try to join a club or something similar. They can help you break in.

You can get around in Panama City speaking English without a lot of problems. If you venture off into the interior then you might encounter problems communicating with some folks. However they are still very friendly, and they will try to help as much as they can. However there are a lot of schools that teach Spanish for expats, and new foreign residents, so if you plan to stay, just get in a Spanish course. It will help you a lot.

For all the rest try to do some research on the web. There are a lot of resources out there, and a lot of sites that offer help if you're planning to relocate, or just to visit and see what Panama has to offer.

Just remember that if you plan to stay get professional help all the way. Don't try to do stuff yourself, as you'll find out that most of the times you'll need an attorney to file petitions, extensions, permits, etc. Good attorneys in Panama have fees very similar to those in the US, so don't expect legal services to be dirt cheap if you want good help. yes
i am panamanian by heritage and there is no place like it. absolute sunny weather, the city is great if you get a good apartment or home. there are tropical storms from time to time but i have never heard of being hit by a hurricane lol. the panama canal is going to be undergoing construction sometime soon but it shouldn't interfere with traffic unless you arrive in a boat being most people either bike or walk. the cost of living there is very low too.
DEFINITELY ! Listen to James,he knows what he's talking about. except the walking part. In the last 15 years, everybody has somehow gotten a car. The traffic is unbeleivable. Cars, cars, everywhere.
