Travel Info Need to know, how to travel by boat from Colon, Panama to Turbo, Colombia in January,07? Travel Tips If you could find someone brave you could charter a boat out of one of the marinas but with all the violence due to drugs and arms being moved out of Colombia up and down the coast it would be too dangerous. I know of no other way to take a boat into Colombia, but I麓ll ask around here for you. For other information about Panama see http://www.panamaexpertos.com/ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION I spoke to several people about the boat situation into Colombia. There two ways into Colombia by boat. One boat leaves from the Colon side and one leaves from the Panama Bay side. Both of these options will require you to travel to the Darien region and transfer to another boat. Everyone I鈥檝e talked to has said this in not a viable option for a tourist, especially an American tourist. There have been too many incidents of Colombian kidnappings. Recently four men from Spain chose to travel by boat and were held hostage around two months until their government finally paid the ransom. The Smithsonian sends their scientists to the Darien with but only with special guards. There are section currently in the Darien that the special police that are assigned to the region to combat drug and weapons transporting will not even go into because it is too dangerous. So again it is not a recommend mode of transportation at this time. MORE INFO I have an American friend who麓s a writer here in Panama. I told her about your question and she said she was in the area of the Darien last month writing an article about the Lago Bayano area she traveled as far as Torti. At Lago Bayano there was a check point and they were checking passports they asked how far into the Darien area she was going. She was told that the Panamanian in cooperation with the American government were not allowing American tourist into the Darien for safety reason. So, if you took a boat to the area and tried to change boats you may be sent back. Source(s): http://www.panamaexpertos.com/ Other Travel Tips Maybe the trip from Colon isn't the best option. You should try to fly to Puerto Obaldia, Darien, and from there get the boat ride to Turbo. There is more boat traffic from there. It's very hard to do this travel by boat. You've to contract a private boat or look for someone else to do this trip. It's better and faster go by plain Ciudad de Panama-Puerto Ubaldia (panama) it costs like us$56; and then take a boat there to go to La Miel (panama) which takes like 15 min and cost about us$10; then you can walk like 10 min and you'll be in Sapzurro (Colombia) and in sapzurro you can take a boat to Turbo (it takes like 2 hours, and costs about us$40) |
