Travel Info What is the part of town in Paris like where the Moulin Rouge is? Is it safe at night? Any other sites there? Travel Tips Despite what American tourist guides say, Pigalle is relatively safe if you stay within the lighted areas, keep purse/wallet close to you, and avoid eye contact with people. Women alone may be approached, but avoid eye contact and just keep walking, and they will leave you alone. Avoid the small stores at night (the "convenience" type stores selling liquor/cigarettes) if you're a woman alone. A charming place to visit is Le Chat Noir. The entertainment is great. The bartenders are charming and accustomed to tourists. Ask them for a picture with you. The desserts are scrumptuous and the atmosphere is charming. It is a very famous place and close to the Moulin Rouge. Others red light district....don't go alone at night anywhere pegalle district 13 and no Its in the red-light district of pigalle. Like anywhere in a big city, if you stick to well-lit areas full of tourists and take the normal precautions of leaving valuables and flashy jewlry in the hotel safe, you should be okay. However, take a look at the crime report link below, which has general advice on paris and also says "Pigalle and best avoided after dark unless with a tour group headed for a show.
