I have an 11 hour layover in Paris at night (11pm-10am). How can I get into the city & what can i do?

I will be with 5 other people and we want to see whatever we can during these hours. Maybe eat, drink, sightsee. Is Paris safe at night to just walk around. We are going in mid-March. Any info would be appreciated!!

make sure you take a cab, the metro only runs around town until about midnight
