Questions on Paris?

Hello Everyone-
I am going to Paris in 2 days.. Any advice on good (cheap) places to eat or must see sights? Our hotel is near the tower.

Travel Tips

Take comfortable walking shoes as it is a Paris to "get lost in", areas that are fun are the Latin quarter (but many many tourist) , hang out in the gay are le Marais (Metro St Paul) it also is the jewish area so a very wide range of people and shops will be open on sunday (clothing and food or 2nd hand books), enjoy a Falafell at Mariannes it is on the corner of the rue des rosiers and a little square, rude waiters but tasty food, the Picasso Museum is in that area and fun to visit even if only to look at tehinside architecture of a hotel particulier. St Germain des pres is a big fave just avoid tourist cafes and check prices (rememeber no free refills of sodas etc and you could find yourself paying 6euros for a coke, but fun to spend time checking out people walking on the street. one of my fave cafes is cafe de la mairie on place st sulpice, just check all streets around there and around rue de seine etc. have a meal or cup of cafe @ cafe marly on cours carre du Louvres opposite the glass pyramid
also ice cream on Ile St Louis
walking in the Luxembourg garden, nice food at Cafe Rostand but pricy compared to a regular cafe
Montmartre is more diversified and has a lot to offer also

visit - the catacombes, sainte chapelle, Vaux le vicomte (quite a way outside of paris but it inspired Versailles and less crowded) musee rodin (nice gardens)

remember pickpockets in all tourists places and metro especially as you get on or off metro or trains, cafes etc, always have your handbag on you and not out of sight,

Food on the Champs Elysees is overpriced (location location) but take side streets and check little cafes out, I remember a few on rue jean Mermoz or rue du colisee

check out the Latin Quarter, there are a lot of street vendors selling food. Or, along the Champs De Lysee (did I spell that right?), the street leading to the Arc de Triomphe, there are lots of restaurants and cafes, but they might be pricey because of the tourists, but Paris in general can be expensive. Things to see: the Louvre Museum, lots of lovely art including the Mona Lisa, which I adored. If you like museums and have the time, check out the Musee D'Orsay, it's in an old train station. Check out the Eiffel Tower of course, it was lit up hourly at night when I was there. I also enjoyed Notre Dame. There is a lot to see, I would recommend getting a guide book and focusing on the types of things that you would enjoy. Hope this helps.
personal experience, I visited Paris last November
The couple of times I've been to Paris, I found the most inexpensive places to eat are the local looking ones. Stick to the cafes and pubs and businesses of that sort. They take full advantage of all the tourists. If you want to spend money the Champs-Elysees is the place. Thats where you'll find the Hard Rock Cafe, and Planet Hollywood among other Pricey places. But seriously if it doesnt look that inviting, then it'll be good food for a great price. They don't really want the tourists, the way the big businesses do. The rumor about the Parisians being snooty is wrong. As long as you don't go there with the attitude that you're American and therefore better. I've seen it in the friends I went with and needless to say I abandoned them to see Paris alone after a day or two. It's definitely one of the best places in the world to visit. So many places so little time...
