Where is the best area to stay in Paris. I don't know the city well. There will be three women on the trip.

Travel Info
I have been looking at packages, but I don't know what areas are the best and safest for three women traveling to Paris this summer. Can you give me some suggestions. Moderate price hotels.

Travel Tips
try Le Meridien Etoile Hotel, I don't know what moderate is to you but it is not too expensive and there are bars cafes and a subway station very close

Others
You know, there are many very nice and safe areas in Paris.
During the day, you can walk everywhere as every Parisian. When it's the night, you must avoid some areas as Ch芒telet les Halles, Gare du Nord, Gare de l'Est, if you don't speak french.
Some very nice areas : Opera Garnier / Grands boulevards area (where there a lot of stores, deluxe shops ...), R茅publique area, Tour Eiffel area, the 7th district ("arrondissement") where the there are a lot of ministeries, embassies ... but for me, when it's a 1st visit in Paris, the best is Opera. There a lot of metros, RER stations, a lot of restaurants, not far from Louvre, Place Vend么me, Champs-Elys茅es, Montmatre, Notre-Dame-de-Paris, Orsay Museum, Trocad茅ro, Arc de Triomphe ...
Wish you a nice stay in Paris and BIENVENUE (welcome) !

I'm French and living Paris
that depends on your tastes. A hotel I've heard alot about and which is inexpensive is hotel tiquetonne. It is modest, simple, clean. the people there are ok too. but it's in the heart of paris and on a very cool street.

If you have time I'd move around a bit. Try staying in the 4th or 5th, then move to the 18th, then try the 16th maybe...

things that are cool and not that many tourists: canal ourcq in the 19th, parc butte chaumont, bercy park, the african market in the 20th (rue belleville), of course you've got to walk down champs elysees, see the tour eifel but there's so much other very cool stuff that's out there.
I'll suggest you hotel Ascot Opera -rue Monsigny no.2. I was there this summer with my friend (so two women) and it's a small hotel, but in a safe area and very close to the main beauties of Paris. I wish you a wonderful trip !

i have been there and i stayed at IBIS hotel near gare du nord
CHEAP, clean, nice, and near the metro station,
i was vy satisfied
So..have a nice stay
I have to agree with the first person. Le Meridien is wonderful. It is close to the arce de triumph as well as the champs d'elise which is the best shopping ever. Since it was a trip for three women, I know shopping will be a part of the fun. There is also a quaint little Italian restaurant in walking distance called La Familia. I know it sounds crazy to eat Italian food while you are in France, but it is worth it. The food is AWSOME!!! Mama works in the kitchen and makes all the pasts herself. Pavarotti has eaten there too! If you are traveling at the time of the tour de france, which is July. The tour will end in this area too and many of the teams stay in the same hotel, so you may have a brush with fame :)
