Travel Tips If you get Skype and then pay for the SkypeOut service, you can call for 0.25 cents (that's 0.025 dollars) per minute, it's a lot cheaper. Using that service, you can call from your computer to any phone line in france Others with a calling card- maybe 6 or 7 cents a minute. 5 or 6 cents I use sendglobal a lot and they have a good rate and are easy as you can use either a land phone or cell phone http://www.sendglobal.com/ My daughter is in Europe this semester and we call her from Nebraska. Our land line phone company needed to give us authority to call overseas which cost nothing. The cost was then $.60 per minute. We opted to pay $4.95 per month and drop the rate to $.20 per minute. We can drop this monthly fee whenever we want. She calls us on her European cell phone and we call her right back so a half hour of conversation is $6.00. The other alternative we use is the internet with a video cam. We have them on our computers and as long as you have high speed internet access we talk to her for nothing and see the video. It is dependent on the transmission speed and can be jerky with the video but that audio is pretty dependable. Hotmail, yahoo, aol, and I'm sure others offer this service and it costs nothing other than the internet access. That's our experience. |
