Are the districts of Paris France flat or hilly ?? |
Travel Info I am wondering if Paris is easy to get around, or will I need to catch buses, or mini vans. I don't have a problem with public transport, however I am curious to know if the distances are close together Travel Tips Paris is a very compact city and easy to get around either on foot or by public transportation. The city is arranged on both sides of the Seine river and the ground generally rises to both the north and south from the center. Montmartre (the Martyr's Mountain) on the north side and Montparnasse (Mount Parnassus) on the south are, however, more hills than mountains. Further, Monparnasse was leveled to construct the Boulevard Montparnasse in the 18th century. The center of the city is generally level and easy to walk. Others For the most part Paris is fairly level. On the "Right Bank" (north of the River Seine) the ground slopes upward toward Montmartre. The Basilica of Sacre Coeur (A large, white church which has been said to look like a "wedding cake") is the highest point in the city. Paris is a great city for walkers. If you're up for it, there is no reason you cannot walk from the Arc de Triomphe to Notre Dame. The best part about walking is that it gives you a great excuse to take a break at a nice cafe or just grab a bench in one of the city's scenic parks. |
