French, c'est vs. il est? |
Travel Info Can someone give me a good way to remember when to use "C'est" and when to use "Il est or Elle est" THANKS!! Travel Tips Very simple C'est = it's You use it to point something or someone, use it like in english, remember "it's" is "c'est". exemple : It's a boy = c'est un gar莽on It's a girl = c'est une fille It's a dog = c'est un chien It's very good = c'est tr猫s bon Il est = He is He is happy = il est content Elle est = She is She is beatiful = elle est belle Source(s): I'm french Other Travel Tips c'est is for things. il/elle est is for people... There is a very good explanation on this page. I can't copy it due to its formatting. http://french.about.com/library/weekly/a... c'est is ce-est (kinda like we have its for it-is) so you have il est -male elle est -female ce est (c'est) -non human. its for describing things. Saying it is, instead of she or he is. I would have liked to be the one to explain this but several people have beaten me to the punch and done a fine job. Maybe if you ask another question about French grammar I could be the first to respond this time. ;-) |
