Travel Tips
I agree with the previous poster about the scenery from the train. It's worth the train ticket. Also, instead of driving, you can bring some wine and a nice lunch and have a picnic on the train. In Nice, if you're staying close to the beach, you probably don't need a car, anyway. We were staying downtown, and walked all the way down to the botanical gardens and back, which gives you a great tour of the coast, along the way.

i always travel from Paris to Nice in the car it took us 4 hours with traffic on the roads and if ur bringing kids its hell on my point of view i would go on the train and enjoy the sites and on the train it takes 2 hours but them 2 hours will be the best hours of ur life well that is if u like scenery
PS ENJOY UR TRIP
It is a long trip by car. Better take the TGV. In car it would take around 7 hours, while in TGV it takes around 3.
TGV is a very comfortable train and the views are nice all along the trip.
I'm not sure how long the drive would take, but I believe it would be much longer than the 4 hours suggested by the first poster. Also, trains tend to be less expensive in France than in the US, whereas highway tolls tend to be far higher. So I would suggest taking the train. Faster, more relaxing, less stressful...
By car = 8h24 (www.viamichelin.fr)
By train (high speed train - TGV) = 5h27 (www.voyagessncf.com)
I'd like the ones who do it in 4h by car to explain to me how they manage to do it !
Anyway, very nice trip, many different lovely landscapes and loads of things to visit between both cities. A good way to discover the variety of this country.
I've taken the TGV from Paris to Nice, and it was a great trip, with wonderful views of the French countryside, naps, a bar (if my recollection serves me)...but I've often thought back to my high-speed trip through the countryside and wondered about those little, off-the-beaten-path places that I didn't get to explore. Travel: so much to do, and so little time!
