From what I remember, you can buy a ticket at the train station, but for the TGV you need to have reservation in advance. So just take the plain train, it's very punctual, too. In case the train almost departs then you can hop in and find the controller and buy a ticket at the same price. I also suggest you buy a train card that you can use for many travels, and the price is much cheaper.
