Does Paris have slums? |
Travel Info I am writing a report on Paris, France while looking at pictures of it I never see slums or working class ares. Does it have a slummy area? If so tell me the names of two districts that are lower rate I could really use help. Travel Tips Les apparances sont trompeuses! If you think that everything in Paris is beautiful you are wrong, that city has the same amount of slums than the USA cities. They have areas with "pied noir", north Africans (maroc) etc., this is the same as in NY... Others Most of the slums in Paris are in the suburbs, les banlieue (dans les environs des villes). During the redevelopment of Paris under Baron Haussmann in the nineteenth century, many of the older areas were torn down, the grands avenues were built, and people moved to the various faubourgs. There are areas in the faubourg du Temple and Mont Martre which are working class. No, there are no "slums" in Paris itself: it is only outside Paris that there are very poor areas. Paris itself is a very expensive city, so that poorer people cannot afford to live there. There are, however, certain areas inside Paris that are relatively poorer, they are almost all in the north of Paris, near Porte de la Chapelle and La Villette. "relatively", because now these areas are also lived in by middle class people who can't afford to live in wealthier areas. Je suis tres desolez, mais I do not know of any 'slums' in Paris itself. All I have heard of are places to the west of it and some north of it.....sorry, I can't remember any names! |
