How safe is the 10e arr. and Gare du Nord area in Paris? |
Travel Info My family and I are visiting Paris in June and we are staying at a hotel in the 10e arrondissement right across from Gare du Nord. How safe is this area, especially at night? Travel Tips I stayed many times at the Hotel @ the Gare de Nord for convenience sake. We had no trouble. There are many undesireables, just as with any rail station in a major city. Don't carry a large purse, try not to carry one at all. Pay attention to your surroundings. Just keep walking and don't pay attention to the low lifes who tend to beg in that area. At night it was still active, though well lit. Just keep your wits about you and don't act like a tourist. Don't expect a large hotel room though.... I'm jealous...have a great time! Source(s): stayed there many times Other Travel Tips Central Paris is generally safe. Most violent crime occurs in the outlying suburbs. The principle worry for tourists is limited to "artful dodger" type crimes, pickpocketing and the like. A very few muggings occur in the Bois de Boulogne, a wooded area on the western edge of the city, often frequented by prostitutes after dark but there is little reason for a tourist to be there in the first place. The area of the Pigalle and certain parts of the rue St. Denis are also frequented by prostitutes and many of the sex shows are clip joints run by organized crime. But simply walking thru the area should pose few problems. I stayed in a hotel about 10mins from Gare du Nord....iit seemed fine (although the first thing I smelt was urine coming out of the station!! and there are homless people around the place)...I was travelling by myself and felt fine (although I didn't stay out that late)..there are lots of cafes/resteraunts in the area as well....which is good for eating! Even if media showed big riots there, I can assure you that Paris is a safe place (except some suburbs though) It's not particularly nice, but safe though. If you're in the 10th, do go to the Canal Saint Martin: it's a very nice area. it is ok , not the prettiest part of paris but okay. if you are near gare du nord you are only about 10 minutes from canal st martin which is pretty and u can walk along it all the way to replublique, which is also a nice area you should be fine, bon voyage |
