Does anyone know anyone in France who rents out apartment for travellers. I need a week at the end of July? |
Travel Info I don't want a hotel either. I am looking for something in Paris for me and my cousin. And nice but cheap. Travel Tips i would search for vacation rental houses/apartments. places like www.vrbo.com www.cyberrental.com have a nice trip=] Others I don't know of any specifically, but if you google Paris apartment rentals you'll get lots of sites. I went on Craig's List and clicked on vacation rentals, then choose Paris, France. We typed in Montmartre stucio and got a ton of listings, including some links to vacation rental sites in Paris. We found a great studio for $100 a night, which is a deal as the cheap hotels in Paris are almost that much now because the dollar is so weak It cost about $1.30 to buy 1 Euro, so it was pretty expensive. We just came back last Saturday. The one thing we found is that the cheaper restaraunts weren't worth it, decent cooking seems to cost at least 15-20E for dinner, anything else cheaper is pretty mediocre. But there are a lot of ethnic places where you can get sandwiches, panninis or wraps for cheaper to take out. Get a Paris Visite pass for the Metro we got a 5 day pass for about 22E, you get unlimited rides on the metro, busses and the RER trains for zone 1-3 which is pretty much the city, you can get 3,5 or 8 zone passes if you need to go further out, the zone 5 and 8 also gets you to the airports for no extra charge (zone 3 you have to pay for the train to the airport) Figure on spending about $100 a day for food, tickets for museums and the Eiffel Tower or the catacombs, and maybe souvenirs. Be aware that the popular tourist sites are infested with gypsies, they wander around asking if you speak English and if you answer them, they sometimes hand you a tattered postcard with a message implying that if you give them money you will be lucky and all sorts of good things will happen to you. Or they just pester you until you hand them something to go away....so the best way to deal with them is no eye contact and no response. (I know that sounds sorta cold, but after the 20th time, you get a little tired of it all) We had a great time, walked a lot, you can walk from the Notre Dame to the Eiffel in a couple of hours, there is a neat walkway along the banks of the Seine that we really enjoyed. We went to the Musee d'Orsay to see the Impressionists on the top floor (Degas, Monet, Renoir, etc) And of course the Louvre, peaked at the Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo then went to the Egyptian, Assyrian, Persian section, which was cool. But the place is huge and you have to map out what you really want to see. The catacombs are interesting and not too expensive. And window shopping on the Champs-Elysees is cool (but the sidewalk cafes there are really expensive, 7E for a coffee....)It was warm and a little muggy last week, even rained a couple of days, but it was still fun, but it gets pretty hot in July and August, so look for a place with AC. |
