Has anyone, who's American, ever lived in Paris? How was it?

Travel Tips
I loved living in Paris for the 2 1/2 years I was there. I had my own apartment, albeit small, but the only time I ever truly lived alone. I'm glad I was in the 17th, clean, quiet and not overrun with expats. Most Americans live on the Left Bank, St. Germain area or right in the 1st.

I transferred there with work so that was easier. They were able to help me with the paperwork, visa, apt. contract, etc. Normally, we're not allowed to work in France and the visa I had was very restrictive.

In case you're wondering, yes, I spoke French before I moved there. Unless you're going as a student, if you don't speak French, you're dependant on English speaking real estate agents to find a place to live. Many of their listings are expensive.

Good luck!

Salut! Yep I lived and worked in Paris....
I REALLY loved it but again I do speak French and that is REALLY a plus, believe me!!!
Regarding the rudeness of the Parisians; yeah well it exists just as there are REALLY nice people living there. English is definitely NOT a plus in France (anywhere actually) so if you do not speak the language it might kinda be difficult.
But I managed to get around and find some really unusual places to visit or have dinner. It is a beautiful and fascinating city. with its own character. It is vibrant (just like NYC is) but "eur枚pean".
I have no idea if you are planning on living there, but you will see there are many many many different nationalities living overthere and a quite big american group as well. So jsut go for it, mingle and just show them that you really wanna be part of the community and not just a tourist and I am sure you'll do fine!!
Take care et Bonne chance
