Travel Info My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to Paris for April of 2008. I've already bought a guide book, however, I'd like to hear from the public about places to go (museums, dining, clubs, etc.). Also, I'd like if possible to take a ride to London (I guess a train, but open to suggestions) while I'm there. Any advice or experiences would be great. Also looking for hotel suggestions before I make my final reservations. I'll be leaving from Newark Airport in NJ, although JFK and LaGuardia in NYC are also possibilities. Travel Tips Hi - I am an American married to a French man and working in the event management industry for many many years. I enjoy creating trips for visitors as well. This is what I suggest: You can't visit Paris and not have breakfast, lunch or brunch at least one of the most famous and charming Caf茅鈥檚: Les Deux Magots - Caf茅 Restaurant or Lipp, amazing atmosphere and hang out for many famous writers and artists. This Caf茅 as well as many other famous caf茅s are located in the Latin Quarter area and my favorite area in Paris by far. There are many boutique Parisian hotels in the area. The rooms are small but charming. You won't be in your room much anyway and the locations are excellent and prices reasonable for Paris standards. One example of many: http://www.paris-hotel-saintgermain.com/... If your jonzing for starbucks there is one at Odeon Metro in this area. It is difficult to suggest an itinerary for you without knowing how long you will be here or what kind of budget you are on, but a great stay in Paris in say 3 days would look something like this. Day one: I would dedicate to an orientation tour to get grounded, go to show and dinner to keep you stimulated and awake, see a real Parisian cabaret, and explore the are area you are staying in to get acclimated. Day Two: Breakfast at Les Deux Magots - Caf茅 Restaurant followed by a Segway tour, (the stand up two wheel motorized scooter type deals). It is a great way to see so much of Paris without being on a tourist bus or walking yourself to absolute exhaustion, plus the tour is fun, educational and dynamic. Visit the Louvre Museum in the afternoon, or evening, really awesome experience at night too. Dinner on the Eiffel Tower at Altitude 95 (reasonable price and no better view in Paris anywhere). Go to one of the top 10 clubs before you crash for the evening,. http://www.10best.com/paris/nightlife/da... Day 3 Take the Metro and hit all the main landmarks: Get a metro map at: http://www.ratp.info/orienter/f_plan_ang... Try to see as many of these as possible: Arc de Triomphe - monument at the center of the Place de l'脡toile, commemorating the victories of France and honoring those who died in battle. The Conciergerie - Located on the 脦le de la Cit茅, it is medieval building which was formerly used as a prison where some prominent members of the ancien r茅gime stayed before their death during the French Revolution. The Eiffel Tower - a "temporary" construction of Gustave Eiffel for the 1889 Universal Exposition. Les Invalides - museum and burial place of many great French soldiers, including Napoleon. Montmartre - One of the most famous of Paris district, located on a hill and hosting the Basilica of the Sacr茅 C艙ur and the Place du Tertre. Cathedral of Notre Dame on the 脦le de la Cit茅 - Paris's 12th-century ecclesiastical centrepiece. Nearby you have to try the famous Ice Cream Berthillon at Pont Louis-Phillippe the bridge between Marais and ILE. ST. LOUIS St. Louis-en-l'Ile. Palais Garnier - Paris's central opera house, built in the later Second Empire period. If you're jonzing for a starbucks, there is one at 26 avenue l'Opera, walking distance from the Opera metro. The Grand Palais - a large glass exhibition hall built for the 1900 Paris Exhibition. Sainte-Chapelle - Also located on the 脦le de la Cit茅, it is a 13th century Gothic palace chapel. The Panth茅on - beautiful church and tomb of a number of France's illustrious men and women. Statue of Liberty - a smaller version of the New York City harbor statue which France gave to the United States in 1886, located on the 脦le des Cygnes on the Seine. Another version is in the Luxembourg Garden. Place des Vosges - square in the Marais district laid out by Henry IV. P猫re Lachaise Cemetery (Jim Morrison buried here) Centre Georges-Pompidou - Hosting the Paris Museum of Modern Art. Have dinner at any one of these very charming restaurants. L'Auberge de la Reine Blanche Address: 30, rue Saint-Louis-en-l'Ile 75004 Paris Excellent, Charming, Reasonable $$ Hidden little treasure in Paris! VERY ROMANTIC (discriminating local' favorite and my personal favorite) You must try the honey duck.. Au Pass茅 Retrouve (ask for Pascal or Serge) 13 rue Mademoiselle, 75015 Paris Excellent, Charming, Reasonable $$ To get to London, hands down the best way is via Eurostar only 3 hours from Paris to down town London.. awesome trip. http://www.eurostar.com - Press United States and you can book your tickets from there.
