Hi, my name is Luis Giuliano and I am moving to Perth soon.? |
Travel Info I am from South America, Peru, and I am 22 years old. I made this question before, but in just a few weeks I am moving to Perth, to continue my studies at Curtin University ( Bachelor of Astrnomy ), so I'd like you to tell me, how is life there ?, also, how about accomodation ?. I was told that the best may be shared accomodation, but, how is that ?, I might be able to pay, $ 150 the week, hope I can find something near the University, so, please I'd really appreciate your helps. P.D : You can also tell me about the people there, the food, and also if it's expensive or not so expensive. Thank you Travel Tips The last answerer doesn't have a clue! The stats she is quoting are 5 years old!! You'd be luck to rent somewhere for $250 per week. The accomodation has sky rocketed and you are better off staying at the uni shared accomodation! Food wise, we eat like everyone else!! It is fairly uncommon to see 'kangaroo' offered at a restaurant although there are some that do. Anyway, they are a pest here. They are eating all the farmers produce and are continuously culled to try and reduce the problems that they cause! We don't eat rost dinners every night. You eat what you feel like, and we have a very diverse array of restaurants and take aways! We have some amazing markets to purchase fresh produce and our seafood is incredible! Perth isn't generally expensive, but some things are. It depends where you go. We are cheaper than Sydney. The people are pretty friendly. We have quite a lot of tourists coming and going and the night life, although quieter than over east, is pretty good!! (I am an addict for the Mustang Bar and the Deen in Northbridge!) Perth is known for having something for everyone!! Good luck with your study, and enjoy living here!!! Source(s): Lived here all my life!!! Other Travel Tips Perth has a newspaper: The Sunday Times. You could order a copy at harrisr@sundaytimes.newsltd.co... to see how much accomodations are. Here are some prices for food and there's a currency converter: embassyces.com/english/centres... The following is from the end of 2002 (in Australian $ - so you'll have to use the converter): Perth has one of the lowest costs of living in Australia. In general terms all living expenses such as rent, food, public transport, health, recreation and miscellaneous (e.g. laundry expenses), can be readily accommodated on a weekly allowance from A$175. This works out to around A$ 9,500 for a full year or A$ 7,500 for a ten month academic year. The currency is the Australian dollar (A$1.00 = US$0.75 approximately). Food: Their breakfasts are much like the U.S. - eggs, cereals, fruit, bacon, toast. Dinner consists of roast meat and vegetables; pasta; pizza; casseroles; barbecue meat; vegetables and salads; soup; easy stir-frys. The most take-out dishes are the meat pie and sausage roll. Asian take-out is popular. And don't pass out if you see kangaroo on a menu - they do eat it. I found all this on the net and it's fairly updated info. Hope you enjoy your new surroundings!鈽? |
