Is a train trip from Sydney/Adelaide to Perth a nice way to see Australia? |
Travel Info Is it hard to get around without a car? Travel Tips Trust me, if you are going to do this you MUST book a cabin. I went from Melbourne to Perth a few years back and only booked a regular seat and it was THE worst experience of my life. At night you have to either sleep in the chair or lie on the floor and there is no possibility of getting comfortable either way. I had a kid behind me who stole my walkman every time I went to the bathroom, the shower always seemed to be taken and the desert is nice but 3 days of red nothingness gets a bit much when there is nothing to do except watch the same three movies over and over. That was my experience, had I booked a cabin I'm sure it would have been far more pleasant. So that is definitely my tip, if you want to go on the train a cabin is the way to go. Others I would recommend taking The Ghan. See http://www.railaustralia.com.au/ghan.htm... You can take it from Adelaide to Alice Springs then to Darwin. It's an amazing way to see the outback and the changing colours of the daylight, all from the comfort of your cabin. Its a great option but a very long one ,I would book a sleeper as it may take at least 4 days if not more Most places have hire cars and taxi's Australia is a BIG place with very long distances with nothing at all between towns/cities the citys are fairly compact but you wouldn't walk from one side of NY to the other neither would you in Sydney |
