Info needed about Perth WA.?

Travel Info
Am moving to Perth from USA towards the end of the year. Looking for anyone who has done this to give some advice on things to be aware of, and things that were positive. We have already moved from the UK to USA so are not totally green. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

Travel Tips
I haven't done this, but have changed countries and used to spend a lot of time in Perth, so I hope this helps.

Coming from Sydney, for me, Perth is a small city. There will be things that you miss, but you will also find new things that you like.

It is reasonably cheap to live in Perth and there are all sorts of areas you can live in, from the beach, to the city, to great inner city areas and suburbia. If it isn't too far from where you work. I really like Mount Lawley as it is close to the city, but really great detatched houses and nice neighbours.

Generally speaking, the north and west of the city are the most highly regarded areas to live. Many British have chosen to settle in the northern suburbs around half an hour north of the city centre. In suburbs such as Beldon, Connolly, Edgewater, Heathridge, Joondalup, Mullaloo and Ocean Reef, British immigrants make up around one quarter of the population. The median house price in this general area was $330,000 in the third quarter of 2005.

The northern and central suburbs of Perth are where people with the highest salaries tend to live.

Houses in top suburbs close to the central city, such as Nedlands and Dalkeith, situated on the beautiful Swan River, command median prices of around $900,000.

There are some disadvantages to buying beachside property in Perth. High winds can become annoying. When they are strong, they can blow garden umbrellas around and bring sand into gardens and houses. Suburban developments close to the coast also tend to have houses packed more densely than those elsewhere.

In the coastal suburbs of Wembley Downs and Scarborough, to the west and north west of the city centre, the median house price was $505,000 in the third quarter of 2005. The median house price for the City Beach suburb was $800,000.

Some of the south eastern suburbs, such as Maddington, Gosnells, Lynwood, and Thornlie are less well regarded than Perth's other areas. The median house prices in these suburbs were $175,000 to $220,000 in the third quarter of 2005.

The good thing is that it doesn't take you long to get from A to B! You will need a car though. You can use public transport for some areas, but a car will allow you to live comfortably.

Have a look at the below website as well. Good luck. Source(s): Personal experience and
