Going to Australia for 12 months, need to know good places to visit? |
Travel Info I am going to Australia for 12 months next year. I want to start in Perth and then travel around, working also. I am a qualified Electrician, would I find enough work? Also what isthe average cost of living in Perth, and the other big cities? When I am in Australia can I also apply for a working holiday visa to New Zealand? Travel Tips If going via Thailand a must is the tiger temple at Kanchanbanui near Bangcock. surrounded by free healthy friendly tigers you can cuddle... sober as well. Avoid all TATs (Travel agents bar the big one in the main station) all rip offs... Go via regular thai coachs from the bus stations... much better and not rip offs. All taxis insist on meters... avoid tuk tuks... motor cycles taxis good to get around Contact the embassy for NZ. Don't think so. You remeber you have a year to activate the visa when you get it. What would be good would be to work your way accross (check when the rainey season is as it will bugger any plans of going north or in the centre for 6 months. Thats work your way accross the south. In Melborne you have got to check out the philip Island Penguin parade... when the little birds come in out of the see and in a procession waddle off to their homes... Cool as fk Melborne also has the good (rare in Us) club scene with subculutres and underground alternative scenes... Else where you can dance in the corner of the brightly lit bar pretty much on your own. Ski season also good between Melborne and Sydney and you could get a season job there... apply marchish from home. Sydney... not so much there... Dont stay in Kings cross ... have a look. Many stay there for months... Sad gits just drinking and doing dope in crap bars they could do at home in crappier hostels... Sydney... as a bloke you have to check out Jelly Wrestle night at the Oxford/Tavern in Petersham from 9.30 (few stops from central station but you need to time it right)... Very funny and mad... all the guys revert to the age of 15 and the girls have a laugh winding the guys up. Climb the bridge, see the cockatoos in the park... (no bread...carrots)... if in season can go and see Humpback Whales outside the Harbour. Go to the Zoo and go 'inside' the Kangaroo and emu enclosure. Bondi beach not that good. Lethal bull sharks may be in the harbour so be careful. And avoid anything with 8 legs... ie no shortcuts through bushes. Careful in Darling harbour. Looks trendy. Mugger know that too. Hostels generally $20/8pounds. And get food from Paddies Market on a sunday... mega cheap... But best planned with mates and a car as u get food by the crate. eg 1 kg prawns there $10 in supermarker $33 and got a whole crate of grapes once for $2 !!!!!. Home and away is filmed at a northern beach. Need bus takes over an hour. For hostel info see www.bugaustralia.com MAKE SURE INSURANCE HAS NO NO NO EXCESS OR YOU WILL GENERALLY HAVE TO CAUGH UP 拢40 $100 A SESSION OR A BIT LESS CONVEINIENTLY JUST BELOW THE EXCESS. Don't go to the blue mountains yourself. Go with the Andos OUTBACK TOUR TO BYRON BAY http://www.outbacktours.com.au/... THIS IS A MUST DO FOR AUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! in byron bay (hippy surf town.) you can scuba dive to see manta rays, poss surf with dolphins. STAY AT the ARTS FACTORY hostal !!!! for a bit at least... hippy hostel with giant teepee and various stuff to do. Learn to surf with black dog surfing with the surfing dog. and on a sunday only go to the areas hippy area of Channon market with the legal dope town Nimbin. After that surfers Paradise/gold coast... Here go swim with the sharks at seaworld/in scuba with a bloody tiger shark!!!!!!! mans shark not sissy grey nurse shark like elsewhere. They do indy races once a year... book far in advance for that... Party town. Note schoolies may be one to avoid or go to... End of school excuse to get **** faced and go nuts. parties and trouble. Like brits in spain. Other then thatthis is very developed tourist area unlike bryon... Eat at Draculas horror show and restaurant. Careful who you work with... dodgy operators like one into car sales and made a hostel with asbestos around and dont pay up...... blud hair... cant remember name. Sleeping Inn good hostel... with lounge rooms. DO NOT GO NEAR THE CANALS...FULL OF BULL SHARKS WHICH DO EAT PEOPLE. NEXT BRISBANE.. Mainly place to find work... clubby area... and go to Morton island or similar and hand feed wild dolphins... Next Noosa... Place to go to Steve Irwins (dude who likes crocs and snakes) Austrailia zoo. Huge enclosure of kangaroos... If booked in advance can take tigers walkies before opening Note dont go walkies off the beaten track. used to be used for ww2 target practice for ships... Aint found all the shells yet... Red triangles = landmines or unexploded ordinance... NOT KIDDING. naf all else there. Next harvey bay go see whales ...(sod all else other then a staging point to Fraser Island)... The hostels are there for that and hire out 4v4s or trip to Fraser island ... get mates you can trust to not drink/drug drive on an island national park with no roads. Or go with organised tour... Best 4v4s appear to be Palace as have hard tops to stash gear as island have back pack thieves whos job it is to nick your stuff. Fraser island also a MUST do... lots of Wild Dingos that come into tourist areas... Not all are nice doggies... so be careful on own including going toilet...like gang members dingos go up in the world attacking others to get respect. In groups you should be ok. Waters full of currents, jellyfish and the breeding ground of tiger sharks... we did see them...so no swimming. But it is amazinly beautiful and top adventure... After that if with Aus experience coach may do to Dingo cattle ranch if you do DEFF GO ON THE HELICOPTER RIDE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ITS 12FOTT OFF THE GROUND FULL SPEED USING TREES LIKE DOWNHILL SKIIERS LIKE A DOGFIGHT FLIGHT... ******* AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... THEN AIRLEE beach stopp off for the Whitsunday and barrier reef yacht cruises . MUST DO avoid cheap and nasty or expensive old and boring... about $400 is good. last minute standy deals good or if female lots of wet t shirt type games to win boat crusies...; onlt the pole dance one is mixed at magnums bar. Top boat appears to be the AVATAR... looks like something out of star trek trimaran (3 hulls)... If go via thailand get thai travel sickness pills the best.... TAKE A NOTE BOOK AND WRITE DOWN HAOWE THE COMPLEX LOOS WORK OR YOU WILL BREAK THEM... ITS RREALLY COMPLEX AND YOU WONT BE POPULAR. THEN Townsville for some dive trips inc to a ship wreck (Cairns prob better) and magnetic island (stay at X base) Cairns then via Tully river for white water raft. Get dive trips there, dont pre book as get better deals... also place to work. One dive trip puts in a fish kebab to get lots of reef sharks in ... go for that... other then that further our the better ir cod hole or coral sea. then coach trips into darwin and down to ars rock etc..(that bit leave a month... Heading up the coast leave several months... esp if working You will need a green then in queens alnd blu card and other states worksite safety induction... . No beach and crocs...lots of mango trees. Good place for aborigonly stuff... hire cars for 2 day trips to tablelands and cape tribulation... at night roads dodgy... NZ Christchurch best winter ski mountains, surf beach, ok clubs and work... South island better for scenery hire or by car... naff all busses. North island Wellington they just suck a destroyer for divers. There is a town just before Grey mouth you can make a knife or for a week and cash a Samuri sword. Proper one Def do to caves and lost worls ansail in Waitomo, White island LIVE volcano island... GET chopper NOT from rotarua unless loaded... but waikatani...(several hundred dollars cheaper. Taupo for some crossing (appeared in LOTR ) top walk... and cheap skydives... Rotarua for mauri stuff, white water rafting and the luge ... Try and get hangi meal and learn haka there. Auckland go to the island volcano in the bay for best view (STAY AT CITY GARDEN LODGE!!!!) Up north for diving inc Greenpeace Rainbow warrior and other wrecks... And between Hamilton and Auckland the amzing maze at night then horror maze... Think maze in cornfields a kilometre accross full of scareies at night with a glow stick... cool. Leave time and money for Queenstown in south for adventuyre sports and deff go on the jetboat... Less pay in nZ thats it I got to go Others Ramsey street the doctor office to get your shots why? Bryon bay is nice it's a great place to check out Surfers paradise is pretty good if you like the night life Bribie island Airlie Beach The Whitsundays. They are absolutely amazing. It is cheap enough to have the experience of a lifetime there. One thing you can't miss when you are doing your holiday bit is to check out the Solway Lass tour. You can stay for three days and three nights on a proper wooden tallship and do snorkeling and diving and exploring and have great food. I cannot recommend it enough. http://www.australiantallships.com/solwa... just go around the whole country it is different all over Electrician will get work ezy if you have papers & know the electrical system here only place to avoid is the topend(N.T/ N.qld) in the rainy season(summer) gets too wet to travel then so if you like it warm southern parts in summer & northen parts in winter & HAVE A GOOD TIME |
