Driving in Perth, Oz - any problems I need to know about? |
Travel Info Driving in Perth, Oz - any problems I need to know about? Travel Tips I'm previously from Perth, WA and was there in Jan this year. There isn't any difficulties driving there, same type of rules as per the rest of Australia and the UK. Although be aware that they are very strict on parking (make sure you read the parking signs along the major streets), the fines can be nasty and the inspectors many especially in Subiaco. On oneway streets you can only park with the flow of the traffic (I got a ticket for this once in Subiaco of course!) and you can not park within 10m of an intersection. Do not run red lights or try to sneak an amber the majority of intersections with traffic lights also have red light cameras, you will also get a nasty fine for this. There are plenty of speed cameras which frequently move position, watch the news in the evening they will give you the majority of camera spots. Finally beware the "Random Breath Test". Cops are able to randomly pull you over to that blood alcohol readings. They always set up on weekend nights but can be around any day at anytime (including mornings). The blood alcohol limit in WA is 0.05, which is 2 drinks in the first hour and then one every hour after that for a man and 1 drink in the first hour followed by 1 each hour after that. Enjoy yourself in Perth, the people are really friendly! Others That dodgy yellow brick road...lots of pot holes...and look out for the wicked witch of the west, she's a right cow.Take a bucket of water with you. Australians! just remember Australians are not the most intelligent people you will meet Be very carefull at night, camels and kangaroos can be around the roads...not to bad in the city....but in the country the roos can jump out of nowherer drive very slowly at night or you will hit one....you should try a cycle round rottnest island....there's snakes all over the roads.....check out the ningaloo reef as well...it a long drive but worth it... Yeah, they haven't heard of road courtesy. Just have to go as soon as there is room. Oh and there are booze buses everywhere. They block the road and stop and breathalyse everyone. They are on the roads from very early in the morning. No, just stick to the left side of the road. Drivers in Perth are very courteous. |
