We are going to Oz in December staying in the Waikiki area of Perth?

Travel Info
Any suggestions of some interesting places to visit. Time will not be a problem as we will be staying with family and will be there for SEVEN weeks.

Travel Tips
Here are some sites suggested by wikitravel:
- Kings Park is a large beautiful park full of native flora located in the middle of the city. The best views of Perth can be found here. Visit the modest but beautiful war memorial.
- Margaret River is the home to some of the world's best wines. Good food and pristine beaches make the southwest region a favourite destination for tourists and locals alike.
- Fremantle, about 20km south-west of Perth is an old port city. Small enough to walk around comfortably with attractions that include the Maritime Museum. Popular with the locals as a place to go for a coffee and even more laid back than Perth. Renting a moped is a great way to see all of what Fremantle has to offer.
- Hillarys Boat Harbour in Perth's northern suburbs is about thirty minutes from the centre of the city. Great food, drinks and beaches. A small water park, The Great Escape, will keep the kids entertained. The Aquarium of Western Australia (Aqwa) is located here as well. Aqwa features an underwater glass tunnel where you can get close up to sharks, stingrays and a huge variety of other marine species.
- Perth Mint is the nation's oldest operating mint and one of the oldest mints in the world still producing coins from its original premises. You can buy and sell gold, purchase jewellry and souvenirs, see the mint in operation, and watch molten gold being poured to create gold bars.
- Perth Zoo has been open since 1898 and has an excellent reputation with both tourists and locals. The cost of entry can be found on the website, and free guided walking tours are offered at 11am and 1.30pm each day. Catch the ferry from Barrack Street jetty to Mends Street (South Perth) and walk to the zoo from there. There are lots of cafes in Mends Street. The ferry is operated by Transperth, and tickets are transferable between the ferry, buses and trains.
- Rottnest Island, a popular holiday destination featuring a casual atmosphere, picturesque scenery and some of the world's finest beaches and bays, is located just 19 kilometres off the coast Source(s): http://wikitravel.org/en/perth_%28austra...

Other Travel Tips
Hi!

Just saw your question, and had to tell you that I am TOTALLY jealous!

SEVEN weeks! SEVEN weeks!! You lucky bu**ars!

My friend is also going out there at Christmas she will be staying at the Abbey Beach Resort. www.abbeybeach.com. This is about two and a half hours drive from Perth. My friend can't wait to go, as I'm sure you can't!

Anyway, sorry I've not got much info for you, but from what I've been told about Aussie, you'll have no trouble filling your time there.

Have a safe journey, and have the time of your life!
Not much to see in Pereth really, though it's a nice place and the pubs and cafes are good. Kings Park is very nice. Go to Freemantle. Visit Rottnest Island. it is lovely. A few hours south is Margaret River and a few hours north is The Pinnacles Desert. If you can hire a car for a week, travel north to the gorges in Kalbarri and to feed the wild dolphins at Monkey Mia. Otherwise to the east of perth you can go and visit Wave wall. have a ball.
no it wont
If you can hire a car then head inland to wave rock, then on down to Albany and follow coast round back to Perth. We are talking big distances and drive to wave rock is miles of not much, except a tree painted like Fred Flinstone in the middle of no where and a Loch Ness monster as you enter York ! But it is beautiful and worth doing.

Stop and admire the dried up salt lakes
Visit the Valley of the Giants and walk amongst the tree tops of the Karri forests
Climb the Gloucester tree if you dare in Pemberton
Take in the beaches at Albany and Bussleton
Go dolphin spotting in Burnbury
Take a bush tucker kayaking trip on the Margaret river
Visit the wineries in the region or watch the surfers

Hope you have a fantastic time
