Where is the best place to have money converted? |
Travel Info I need to exchange my aussie dollars for GBP and Euros ... Not sure the best place to do it, I have heard lots of different things. Travel Tips Check the rates and commission charged by both banks and people like Travelex in Perth. The commission can be the main difference. Definitely don't wait until you get to the airport or you will be left with no choice. Others No matter what you do, don't get it converted at the airport. They crush you on the rates. Banks offer the most competitive rates. Airports will do it. I'm pretty sure that some banks will as well. If you can, you simply need to find a place that specializes in currency exchanges. When I was in Paris last summer, there was a currency exchange in the heart of the city. There were also exchanges at the airports in Geneva, Newark and Portland, OR. So I'd say the best bet is the airport. If you have time and you're flying, I'd check with your local airport to see if they have a currency exchange on site. If not, try your local bank. Your best bet is a bank. Not all banks do it so you may want to give your bank a call before you go down to it and then they tell you that they cant do anything for you. Whatever you do don't go to the airport unless you absolutely have to. The banks normally best. Probably get the best rates in oz rather than uk cos they'll be a bigger demand for them there. |
