Do you mean the inner north-east suburbs, such as Clifton Hill or the outer NE suburbs like Greensborough or do you mean in the country, like Mansfield? Because they're going to different answers. With the inner north-east suburbs, there are quite affluent areas, such as Clifton Hill and some dodgy suburbs, like Fitzroy, but the outer north-eastern suburbs are quite bushy and the further out you go, the more countrified it becomes. The outer north-east of Melbourne is a haven for arty types and hippies (not to mention ferals) and is the part of Melbourne where you're most likely to find a mud brick. As for the country to the north-east of Melbourne, for that you will need to be more specific again if you need any help, but I hope I've been able to be some help to you.
