There are many many things to do in Peru! You can even simply go to Lima and book a variety of trips/tours from there.

I would highly recommend for your first time and organized tour that will take you to Machu Picchu, Cuzco, Puno, Lake Titicaca and elsewhere.

You can also take in the Nazca lines and many other areas.

Going into the jungle can be done easily as a 'teaser' or as a full fledged tour.

Do be careful in Lima. It is a big city with a fair amount of crime. You can easily walk around in the day time, but there are areas to avoid.

For going to Cuzco, Machu Picchu and Lake Titicaca, you can take the bus or the plane. I would recommend the plane to Cuzco and then the bus to Lake Titicaca. (When you fly to Cuzco though, allow for altitude adjustment.) If you have time, then take a bus back from Lake Titicaca to Lima otherwise fly.

Many things. Peru has 3 main regions: there is the north, the jungle, and the south. The most famous site in (southern) Peru is Macchu Picchu, the Inca city near Cuzco, which is a neat town by itself. A lot of people hike the Inca train to this site (3 day hike with tents), but you can also take the train directly. In the north, there are a lot of temples and cities of pre-Inca civiliations, complete with mummies (in museums). I can't speak for the jungle, but I heard its also worthwhile. If you like visiting places where ancient cultures once roamed, Peru is for you.
