Anyone have a great Peru experience with a tour operator?

Travel Info
HELP! I'm going to Peru in Sept and have no idea where to start looking for a tour operator. I'm guessing touring is the best or is it better to just wing it and do it alone? Need a place to start looking and best way to find a good tour company is by word of mouth right? Looking for a good tour package that isn't extravagantly priced. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!!

Travel Tips
I just got back from a Peru tour yesterday that I booked through Adventure Center (www.adventurecenter.com). The tour itself was staffed by GAP Adventures. Everything from airport transfers in Lima (which can be chaotic) to hotels and internal flights were seamlessly arranged. I did an 9-day tour called "The Inca Journey" and it was priced at $995 excluding international flights. The hotels were comfortable and the flights were all on Lan Peru (a partner of American Airlines).

When looking at Peru tours, definitely include time in Cusco, a day for Machu Picchu (unless your hiking the Inca Trail, which is 4 days), some time in the Amazon Rainforest (Puerto Maldonado or Iquitos). I wish I would have added the Nazca Lines and Lake Titicada to my itinerary too.

Good Luck planning your trip. Peru is a wonderful country to visit! Source(s): www.adventurecenter.com

Other Travel Tips
sorry, i cant help you with the exact tour package. however, my parents went to Europe last year and gave me some hints:
1)do some research on the web about the country, then decide on the things you really want to see. Most tour guides don't read minds, and they won't know what you want to see, so they'll show you some things that might not particularly care about and skip over some pretty interesting places.
2)find a reasonably priced tour package. Don't immediately dive for the cheapest one; its not neccessarily the best choice. Look for one that has a good transportation system, good ratings, reasonable prices, is flexible about the places shown in the tour, and provides refunds for dissatisfaction
3)when you find the right tour package, give them a list of the places you really want to see, and tell them that they can arrange the tour arround that however they want
4)don't be afraid to make your opinions known. if you don't like something, tell them. also, if you realize that they are not the best tour company for you, don't be afraid to tell them so, demand a refund, get out of their office, and choose another, better, tour package

I would say(I am Owner of a Travel Agency)that it depends on a few things:

1-Do you want to go on a guided tour of Peru(meaning with other people)? Or go it alone? Only YOU can make that decision as neither I nor anyone else make thet decision for you.

2-Is there a certain part of Peru that you have in mind?

3- All-inclusive or not?(All-inclusives tend to be cheaper as opposed to the tours that offer tour/accomodations only)

Those minor obstacles can be overcome; if you could kindly either call, email me at: indysteve1563@yahoo.com, or reach me through Yahoo Messenger with your ideas/proposed Travel itinerary we can see what Tours to Peru would make the most sense, both from your wants and needs, and cost.
