Do you know what injections I will need to get before I travel to Peru for two weeks? |
Travel Info I am going in October for two weeks mostly to Lima, Macchu Piccu, maybe a little of the Amazon and then up to the beachside in the Northwest. Travel Tips I used to work at a University Health Center as a travel meds nurse. I can tell you that you WILL need some vaccinations. We had a software program that would tell all needed immunizations. You can go to the CDC website at www.cdc.com for information. It is a little tricky because vaccines are not required to enter the country, but highly recommended. So in reality you don't have to have anything, but it is not a good idea. The basics for going anywhere are Hepatitis A and B, current tetanus, MMR and sometimes antimalarial meds. Rarely some people would need yellow fever vaccine or meningitis. Check the CDC website. Good idea to get a hepatitis A vaccine traveling anywhere in Latin America. A malaria medication is recommended for the Amazon.. I have always stayed in the mountains, so I have never taken the malaria pills. Don't have to worry about malaria over 2500 meters. If I was going to take malaria medication ,I would go with malarone.If you take any medicines or get vaccines know how far in advance you have to take them before your trip. Have a great adventure.
