Travel Tips
dont take a hiking pole. these are frowned upon as some damage the trail.
buy a bamboo pole off one of the locals at km 82 before you start the trek.
warm clothes its very cold at night.
before you book check the size of the group you will be going in, my girlfriend and I hiked it in december 05 and were the only people in the group which was great, we did see groups of 20 or more which doesnt really appeal to me.
As long as you are in a good state of health there is no need to do any training for it.
You will be walking at altitude and no amount of training at sea level can prepare you for that.
When you reach the sun gate early on day 4 it will be one of the best moments of your life.
its an amazing experience, you will love it.

Others
Take trekking poles, they make a huge difference. Respect the local cultures, dont spew any religious nonsense at them.
respect local cultures, take time to intergrate with the locals, take salt tablets, and have a lot of fun, enjoy the trip xx
you should have watched 'extreme dreams' on bbc2 last week, they went there, it was amazing, only 100 people have ever done that trip and survived
good luck
drink lots of water, take lots of pictures and as you take your trek upload them onto a website so people can follow you on your journey,
and
Good Luck
Make sure they trains are not on strike! Only one train up (unless you plan to start trekking from the very bottom)
Go to the dentist and make sure your teeth are OK. Get fit before you go, seriously fit, but build up slowly. Go walking wearing a 50lb-70lb rucksack while training, when you take it off you'll feel as though you're walking on air. (Re: earlier comment, start off with 20lbs and build up). Get your diet sorted out, lots of carbohydrates. Wear in your walking boots for weeks before hand, not one pair but two, and forget the salt tablets. Why do people think you need them. It's rubbish.
