What is the Inca Trail like?

I live in england and my girlfriend is Peruvian. we will be doing the Inca Trail one day and i can't wait, i was wondering what other people thought of it that have been.

I was in Peru earlier this year and i didn't take then Inca trail because i thought it would be too strenuous... i wanted to enjoy myself!! i really do regret it though. Most companies have porters that carry all your things. all you have to carry yourself is your water. some friends who took it said that it was amazing. I really recommend that you do it and i regret not doing it myself. I booked all my tours through Amazing Peru. (www.amazingperu.com) they were really great and all the tours i took with them were great. I also recommend that you tour a lot in Cuzco. Its great city with a lot of history. Very fun, great food. Great treck...Just be ready for both rain or sun & have good insect repellent (deet 50% mim.).... Try to get a local guide and he will help with the outfiting. Try to bring most of this with you because you are a tourist the price doubbles there..... GOOD LUCK........
