Do I need a converter for electricity when I go to Peru (S. American) this winter? |
Travel Info I want to take my digital camera, and am not sure what the current is there Travel Tips If your camera is dual voltage, all you will need is an adaptor. If it is not, then you will need a 50W converter and two adaptors. You can tell if your camera is dual voltage by looking at the FCC panel of whateveritis that you plug into the wall. If it goes to 200 or beyond in voltage, then it is dual voltage. If it doesn't, it isn't, and you will need a converter. Regardless, you will need at least one adaptor. Working at a travel goods store for 6+ years, it seems that the newer the camera, the higher the likelihood that it IS dual voltage. See voltagevalet.com Others Yes you will. We use 220 AC voltage. You can buy a small transformer since your camera won't consume too much current. Also, read the label of your camera charger's power supply. Some of them actually take 110 to 240 volts. Most of the laptops already do that. BTW, it's summer in Peru right now, so try to go to the beach :) I'm from Peru Peru's current is 220, so....first of all, check your camera's charger, and if you see that it says "110-240" you won't need a converter. If you happen to need one, you have 3 options: 1.- You buy one here at Radio Shack or any other store. 2.- Check the place where you will stay in Peru. Most homes and hotels have "transformadores", which is the word for "converter". 3.- You can buy one in Peru in Ace or any other store. Good luck and have fun in Peru! Peruvian living in CA. |
