Arequipa is not a district. There is the Department of Arequipa (the equivalent of a US state) and the province of Arequipa (the equivalent of a US county). The City of Arequipa is the capital of the county and the State of Arequipa and it has, itself, many districts.
The city of Arequipa is about 1000 km (621 mi) south of Lima (the capital of Peru).
