Travelling to Peru? |
Travel Info We are a group of senior citizens from New Orleans and would like to know if Peru's political atmosphere is ok or is it that there are still problems with violence. Would we have problems in provinces such as Arequipa, Cuzco and Puno? Travel Tips The political atmposphere is ok for tourists, there are no terrorists in provinces and things are pretty calm. Lima will be fine but I bet you will love Arequipa, Cuzco and Puno. Just be careful with the altitude in Cuzco. As soon as you get there, stay that day in the hotel and drink small sips of coca tea. Avoid carbs at all cost and if you feel sick ask for an oxygen bottle in your hotel. Arequipa is not that high, but Puno may be. Just take it easy and you'll have a blast! Others You will have no problems at all! The areas that you have listed are highly traveled by Americans. The most trouble you will probably have is with people trying to get you to buy their trinkets, eat at their restaurants, or take their tours. This is more of a nuisance than a danger! You'll find the majority of Peruvians to be incredible generous and friendly towards visitors. As always, take the normal precautions such as keeping your money/passport/credit cards in a safe place. Make copies of these documents as well and keep one in your suitcase and leave one with a friend or family member at home in case yours gets stolen or lost. Be friendly and open with the people you meet while traveling and I'm sure that you will get the same back from them! Have a wonderful time! Absolutely not. Violence and terrorism problems are past issues, Peru is a very quiet and safe country for tourism, especially in the small cities or provinces where the people are very nice and respectful with the tourists. |
