Safe in Ayacucho?

I want to travel to Ayacucho (from California) but some web pages I've read say that terrorists live there. Is it safe to go?

Ayacucho was the main focus of terrorist activity during the 80's but right now it's a great place to visit. Nearly all terrorist activity was supressed and now the people there live in peace. Ayacucho is a really nice city, lotf of things and places to go, especially during Easter time.

yes it safe,the terrorists were there during the 80's and beginning of the 90's now is a very safe place, and the churches there are incredible.
