How to avoid altitude sickness in Cuzco? |
Travel Info How to avoid altitude sickness in Cuzco? Travel Tips Try and fly early in the morning so you can spend the rest of the day resting in your hotel. Drink coca tea in small sips during all afternoon and do not go out the first day so your body will adjust to the altitude. Then just do your normal life but try and avoid carbs and starches as without that much oxygen your body will not metabolise these foods. Dont eat chocolate, bread or potatoe if possible, Stick with lean meats (chicken), steamed vegetables, etc. Dont eat heavily at night as you wont digest that meal easily. Others Yes the best thing is take it easy when you get there. When you arrive at the hotel they will have coca tea for you. I don't know if that really helps or not but it is relaxing. Rest for a while and your body will start to adjust to the altitude. I got a headache there when I arrive and felt bad but the next day everything was ok. You'll really notice the high altitude when you try to climb steps and walk up steep hills. Have fun in Cuzco. Wish I was going there! Eat light, avoid running, and rest very much and drink mate de coca. I have a friend who is a photographer,he recommended a pill called: acetazolamida, you take it 48hrs before going to high altitude, drink a looot of water, and it worksvery well. I suffer from high altitude sickness everytime I went to cuzco was horrible but after taking this pill it was solved. I researched this pill on Lima, and a lot of people working on mining, takes this. You can ask your doctor about this pill, so you dont have any problem when taking it. Another friend who doesn't like taking pills, told me that he solves his altitude sickness with chocolate and well avoiding eggs, greasy food, noodles, heavy food... hope it helps, have fun in Cuzco www.operu.com |
