Does anyone have a suggestion for Inexpensive and touristy things to do on a weekday evening in Philly? |
Travel Info I'll be in town on business, but will have Thursday evening free to explore. Looks like most museums close at 5:00, though. I'd appreciate any suggestions so that I can make the most of my first time in that city. Travel Tips Walking is free and fun. If it's your first time, just head down to Society Hill and walk around for a little bit. Start out at Independence Hall and then walk around the area. Ben Franklin's house is in the area (or what's left of it) and is usually open 'til late - as it doesn't really exist (really just some foundation stuff left). A lot of older buildings are in the area. I particularly like some of the smaller alley-ways in the area (keep you eyes peeled for some of the smaller old trinity type houses - one room on each of 3 floors - thus the name Trinity). National Park Service has two good maps of the area with important buildings listed: http://www.nps.gov/inde/pphtml/maps.html... When you're done with that head down to the bustling Old City area - you're just a short walk away from Indepence Hall. Grab a meal at any of the hip/trendy new restaurants in the area, or just grab a coffee and pastry at a nice coffee shop and sit outside and watch the world go by. http://www.oldcity.org/ Some people might suggest walking down to South Street. I however, feel that it's no longer what it used to be. That should be enough for one relaxing evening. Others south street is really cool Franklin Institute King of Prussia walk around south street. they start opening up about 7pm and lots of things to see or do. |
