What are some fun things to do in Phildelphia? |
Travel Info I'm going to Philly this weekend. Friday, I'm going to see a concert, but Saturday we don't have much to do. Can you suggest something offbeat (not-so-touristy) that me and 3 other younger adults can do. (We're 22-26) Travel Tips I personally tend to avoid South Street, except when I'm jonesing for a cheesesteak at Jim's. I just find the street a bit grotty. I would suggest walking around Old City. It's kind of the Soho of Philly. Lot's of shops, restaurants and galleries to check out. Grab brunch/lunch at The Continental or Fork, and then just stroll around the streets. http://www.oldcitydistrict.org/... Also in the area, you can walk up to Elfreth's Alley, the oldest continuously residential street in the US (or so they say). http://www.elfrethsalley.org/ Alternatively, you could hang out in the Rittenhouse section of the city. If it's a nice day, just grab a bench in Rittenhouse Square Park and watch the world go by. Just off the park is La Columbe Coffee - the best coffee shop in Philly. http://lacolombe.com/index.html... Another suggestion is to head up to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Run up the steps like Rocky and check out the museum. If you're not into museums, then you can have a nice stroll up the Fairmount Park/East River Drive along the river, directly behind the museum. Also in the Fairmount section of the city is the old prison which is a quirky place to visit. http://www.easternstate.org/ One last suggestion is the totally off-beat Mutter Museum. A museum dedicated to medical oddities. http://www.collphyphil.org/mutter.asp... Hope that helps. Others Definitely check out South Street in Philly. It's got a lot to offer, it's offbeat, and is probably the most interesting place in Philly. South street is ok, I don't recommend going there at night if you're not the type who pays attention to what's going on around you. I love to go to Reading Terminal Market. The food is tastey goodness. I really like the historical stuff, Independence Hall, Libery Bell, Ben Franklin's house, etc. This might be too touristy for you, not sure. Swanky Bubbles is great place to go for drinks (I love champagne). The University of Penn's archaeology museum has one of the best Egyptian exhibits outside of Egypt. You have the Philadelphia Museum of Art, always a good choice. Have fun. http://www.readingterminalmarket.org/... http://www.theinsider.com/philly/attract... http://www.swankybubbles.com/ http://www.museum.upenn.edu/ http://www.philamuseum.org/ Drive to Pittsburgh The Philadelphia Zoo is wonderful! |
