Whats life lik in philadelphia? |
Travel Info hello everyone, I will soon be going to Phili, to study in a college there can anyone, please help me to get a good appt or housing in west phili...?? But I need a safe place and low cost!! And what are the places there in terms of jobs etc..?? Travel Tips Charene is right...get to University City. This is pretty much South St. up to Hamilton Street, and from 30th Street Station up to about 46th or so. There are some sketchy areas in there...even the High School right there on Drexel's campus is troublesome, but if you're cautious and don't walk alone at night, you should be fine. Just use your head. Carry pepper spray, put away the ipod and keep your eyes and ears open at night. You should be fine during the day though, so go explore! Penn is a beautiful campus and fun to walk through. Drexel's isn't so much, but they're trying. There are some good bars around there too with good food. The New Deck Tavern has good beer, pours a great pint of Guinness, and makes some good food. It's a nice crowd too. Mad Mex is a good mexican restaraunt too, with good margharitas. Lots of shopping on Penn's campus too. I go to Drexel now and lived there for a few years prior. Shoot me an email if you have more questions. Others Low cost? Good luck If you are going to live in West Philadelphia, you should concentrate on the University City area- it is probably the safest part of that area, what with all of the Penn and Drexel students. You may also be able to get a better deal on an apartment in that area, since many are rented to students. There are jobs available in the city, but you must know what you're looking for. Try living in Northeast Philadelphia, its affordable and a nice area. Its very safe too. I live in West Philly, as west as you can get and still be in Philly. My apartment is right off of City Avenue. It's quiet and has easy access to public transit (there's a bus that goes right to University City). Unfortunately Philly is expensive and despite what people say, I don't think there are any "safe" parts. Philly neighborhoods are funny. They're nice for five blocks, then they can turn into a very scary place. Everyone will tell you to go to the burbs but it's even more expensive out there and you got to figure in the fact that it will cost more for you to get to school. |
